Leadership Nominations

"Leadership gave me a vision of a positive future for my child: it gave me the self-confidence to dream and design my own vision, and skills to make my dreams a reality!"

Dear Friends of Leadership:

The Institute on Disability/UCE, at the University of New Hampshire, is once again requesting your assistance in nominating adults with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities to participate in the New Hampshire Leadership Series. The New Hampshire Leadership Series is seeking participants who are highly motivated to become well informed about, and active in, policymaking and systems change for individuals with disabilities in our state.

The New Hampshire Leadership Series provides participants with state-of-the-art information about issues concerning people with disabilities. Leaders in the field, adults with disabilities, parents, and family members, will present information and facilitate groups during each session.

At the New Hampshire Leadership Series, participants will receive a wide range of information and strategies designed to assist them in setting visions and achieving dreams for themselves and their families. The New Hampshire Leadership Series will educate families and adults with disabilities about best practices in education (including secondary and post secondary education), employment, housing, and participation as full members of the community. In addition, information on positive approaches to challenging behavior, assistive technology, negotiation skills, the history of the disability movement, community organizing, and the legislative process will be addressed.

This Series provides participants with overnight accommodations and all are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to network with each other "after hours." Seven two-day sessions will take place monthly from September through April. The people selected must commit to participation in all seven sessions. Participants are eligible to receive nine credits from Granite State College after completing the Series.

Participants are provided with financial support to cover expenses, including materials, lodging, meals, childcare, and travel, if necessary. Participants will be selected on the basis of: 1) their interest; 2) their ability to organize other community members; 3) their commitment to attend all of the sessions in the Series; and 4) geographical location with the state.
