Dear Friends of Leadership,

The Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire is once again requesting your assistance in nominating adults with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities to participate in the New Hampshire Leadership Series. The NH Leadership Series is seeking participants who are highly motivated to become well informed about and active in policymaking and systems change for individuals with disabilities in our state.

The NH Leadership Series provides participants with state-of-the-art information about issues concerning people with disabilities. Leaders in the field, adults with disabilities, parents, and family members will present information and facilitate groups during each session.

At the NH Leadership Series, participants will receive a wide range of information and strategies designed to assist them in setting visions and achieving dreams for themselves and their families. The Series will educate families and adults with disabilities about best practices in education (including secondary and post secondary education), employment, housing, and participation as full members of the community. In addition, information on positive approaches to challenging behavior, assistive technology, negotiation skills, creating a network of support, the history of the disability movement, community organizing, and the legislative process will be addressed.

This Series provides participants with overnight accommodations and all are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to network with each other "after hours." Participants are provided with financial support to cover expenses, including materials, lodging, meals, childcare, and travel, if necessary.

Seven sessions will take place monthly from September through April. Accepted nominees must commit to participation in all seven sessions. Participants are eligible to receive nine credits from Granite State College after completing the Series.

Participants will be selected on the basis of: 1) their interest; 2) their ability to organize other community members; 3) their commitment to attend all of the sessions in the Series; and 4) geographical location with the state.

To make a nomination online, click here. If you would like to download the nomination form and mail it, click here (pdf). It is not necessary for you to contact possible participants. When we receive your nominations we will send a letter explaining the NH Leadership Series and an application to all who are nominated. There is a selection process and only 35 participants will be chosen.

The deadline for nominations is June 18, 2010.

If you have any questions or would like further information, feel free to contact me.

Thank you very much for your help.

Sincerely,

Beth Dixon
